Bellevue Terrace - Green Space under threat - UPDATED.

Updated: Bellevue Terrace, Totterdown - Application no. 11/04970/F.

Many residents and local councillors Mark Bailey and Alf Havvock opposed this application to build 9 dwellings on land in Bellevue Terrace objecting amongst other things to the scale and mass of the building, especially the height, and the loss of open space.

They all attended the Development Control Committee on the 7th where statements were presented. The committee voted 4 to 3 to defer the application "pending reconsideration of the height of the proposed units, more information on the nature of the land contamination and sustainability provision."

The residents of Bellevue Island (Bellevue Road, Bellevue Terrace, Dunmore Street, Higham Street and Vernon Street) had been campaigning since receiving a planning application on Christmas Eve that nine three storey, four bed townhouses were to be built on the Network Rail owned former allotment land opposite Bellevue Terrace.

The Bellevue Island residents argued: "The negative impact of nine new homes and 36 plus extra vehicles for local residents is huge: reduced parking, increased congestion and for the people of Bellevue Terrace and the end of Cambridge Street, overshadowing by these towering monoliths, resulting in losing their city views, privacy and natural light."

There was a well-attended resident’s meeting held on Sunday 8th January 2012 in the Oxford pub, local Lib Dem councillor Mark Bailey addressed the crowd and stated the people affected by this development have to get their objections in online (or by post) as quickly as possible before the deadline of 18 January 2012.
